Obituary of Rosalie Northrup

Rosalie Ann Northrup, 83, of Sidney, died Monday, January 9th after a short illness at Meadowood Rehabilitation Center in Pennsylvania. She was surrounded by her loving family.
She was born April 23, 1939 to Richard Benedict and Ruth Davis Benedict.
Rosalie graduated from the Sidney High School in 1957.
She married her soulmate and love of her life, Paul, on November 12, 1960. Following an accident while serving in the US Army which left him a quadriplegic, she was his caregiver for 30 years until his death in 1991. She was caregiver during her lifetime for many family members. Her love was shown through her kindness, patience and dedication.
Rosalie was a member of MacDonald Hose Auxiliary for many years.
She loved to crochet afghans and won ribbons for them at the Walton Fair. She enjoyed mowing her property on her John Deere tractors, enjoyed baking, playing Scrabble and Yahtzee, gardening, and sitting on her back porch glider enjoying the view of her yard. Rosalie also loved the Buffalo Bills.
Rosalie was an animal lover and had a fondness for red foxes which her great granddaughters call "Gigi's favorite".
She was predeceased by her parents, Richard and Ruth; her loving husband of 31 years, Paul; a sister, Barbara Lash; stepfather Wallace Ireland; nephew, Robert Backus, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, William and Paula (Northrup) Hoffman of Doylestown, PA; two granddaughters and their husbands, Amber and Mike Minnick of Eagleville, PA and Cassie and Sam Portock of Hatfield, PA, all of which lovingly called her "Gray Bear"; two great-granddaughters, Emma and Kelly Minnick, who called her "Gigi"; nephew and his wife, Richard and Pamela Backus of Rapid City, SD; niece, Debbie Martin of Johnson City, NY; several grandnieces and grandnephews; and special cousins, Marlene Sanchez of Mohawk, NY and Karen Feltman of Walton, NY.
Rosalie also leaves behind special friends, Betsy and Bruce Barber, Connie Wilbur, Dell and Marion Hoag, Paul and Pat Hamilton, Barb Wakeman, Ed Barnes, as well as her beloved cat Sammy. Also, Patty Decker and her sons, Lucas and Ryley, were visiting her and doing jobs she needed done.
At her request, there will be no funeral. Friends are invited to call from 2:00-4:00pm on Sunday, January 15, 2023 at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St. Sidney, NY 13838. Burial will be private in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Sidney.
