Joseph A. Maddalone SIDNEY—Joseph A. Maddalone, 80, longtime resident of Sidney and most recently of Delhi, passed away on Friday morning, December 18, 2015 at O'Connor Hospital in Delhi. Joe was born on October 29, 1935 son of the late Joseph and Helen (Friery) Maddalone in Schenevus, NY. He graduated from Oneonta High School in 1954. He worked for Mid-City Service in Oneonta and joined the NYS National Guard. He worked for Winn's Garage in Bainbridge during his apprenticeship with NYSEG, where he went on to retire as Chief Lineman in Sidney after a 35 year career. Joe was married to Carole Delello on April 8 1956. She predeceased him April 27, 2001 after 45 years of marriage. He later married Joyce Schultz on August 29, 2008 and they've shared 7 happy years together. To say Joe was active in his community would be an incredible understatement. Joe was a 50+ year member of the Sidney Fire Department and served as their Chief, where he received many awards for his work during the Cartwright Avenue Fuel Depot explosion. He also served as the Delaware County Fire Coordinator for many years. In addition to Sidney, he was also a member of Borden Hose Co. in Mt. Upton and the Bainbridge Fire Department. He concurrently served as Town Supervisor for the Town of Sidney and on the Delaware County Board of Supervisors for 12 years, during which time he served as Chairman of the Public Safety Committee when they built the public safety building. He was a Town Board Member of 6 years, a Village Board member for 5 years, and at one time served as the Deputy Mayor. His volunteerism continued in his service to the Sidney Rotary Club where he was a longtime member, Past President and Paul Harris Fellow. He was a past president of the Sidney Community Foundation and past director of the Sidney Boys and Girls Club. He was a member of Vision 21 of Sidney, Central NY Fireman's Association, FASNY, Delaware County Fireman's Association and Chenango County Fireman's Association. He was a Director for Delaware County Office of the Aging and a Board member for Delaware Opportunities. He was a former member of the Sidney Moose Lodge and the Sidney American Legion Vets Club. In 1986, he was awarded the Citizen of the Years by the Sidney Chamber of Commerce. Joe also was an avid hunter. Joe was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He will be dearly missed. He is survived by: His wife, Joyce Maddalone of Delhi Two sons: Kevin and Tamara Maddalone of Sidney and James and Karen Maddalone of Bainbridge Grandsons: Matthew and his wife, Valarie of Oneonta; Daniel of Albany and Andrew of Bainbridge Brother, John and Nancy Maddalone of Goodyear Lake Joyce's sons, Richard Schultz and his wife, Lorelee and Jonathan Schultz and his wife, Jessica; grandchildren Anthony, Angelia, Adalynn and Landon Sister-in-law, Esther VanDermark of Oneonta; Brother-in-law, Frederick and Nancy Delello of Oneonta; Brother-in-law, Leonard and Eleanor Beers of Norwich; sister-in-law, Martha Delello of Oneonta; Brother-in-law, Patrick Delello of Laurens; sister-in-law, Linda and Tex Hofsdal of Delhi; sister-in-law, Phyllis and Chuck Gilroy of North Fenton and sister-in-law Laura Meres of Delhi and his faithful companion, Buster In addition to his parents and wife, Carole, Joe was predeceased by his brothers, Robert and Charles; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Leon VanDermark, Bernard and Rose Delello, Bernice and Deke Mulkins, Frances and Maurice Walley and Martin and Edith Delello. Friends are invited to call from 5:00-8:00pm on Monday, December 21, 2015 at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St. Sidney. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 22nd at 11:00am at Sacred Heart Church, 15 Liberty St. Sidney. Burial will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Sidney. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Joe's memory may be directed to the Sidney Fire Department, 74 River St. Sidney or to the Delhi Emergency Squad, PO Box 405 Delhi, NY 13753.
