Obituary of Sally Ann Blakelock

Sally Ann (Lyons) Blakelock, 80 formerly of Unadilla, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 23, 2015 at Mebane Ridge Assisted Living in Mebane, NC. She was greeted at the gates of heaven by her husband Douglas, who passed away 3 months earlier. Together once again, they are rejoicing, as they spend eternity in the presence of our Lord. Sally was born in Rutland Vermont on November 13, 1934 to Ella Nielsen Lyons and Richard D. Lyons. Sally grew up in Niskayuna, NY and graduated from Nott Terrace High School. She married Douglas P Blakelock shortly after and raised 5 children. Together, Doug & Sally shared nearly 62 years of marriage until his passing. She treasured her family, her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Sally spent over 25 years working for the New York State Police at Troop C Barracks in Sidney, NY. She received a Letter of Commendation in May 1989. Sally served her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in many ways. She cared for everyone around her young and old. Sally was constantly helping others and spent countless hours in service to St. Matthews Church in Unadilla. Sally served on the Altar Guild, Vestry and Choir. She was instrumental in bringing the Youth Ministry, "Happening", to the Albany Diocese and all of NY State, which in turn helped to lead many teenagers to know Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior. She loved all children & teens as her own and touched so many lives through this ministry. Sally was predeceased by her husband, Douglas and her son, Mark Robert Blakelock. She is survived by her only sister, Barbara Crounse, four children: Douglas and Wendy Blakelock, Loie and Tim Leopardi, Paul and Jacquie Blakelock, Lisbeth and Tracy Monell; grandchildren: Timothy and Kristin Blakelock, Adam Blakelock, Erin and Jonathan Stephenson, Kate Cobb, Michael Cobb, Lauren and Kyle O'Malley, Mark and Jennifer Deger, Jacob Monell and Hannah Monell; great-grandchildren: Levi and Zachariah Blakelock, Cora Stephenson, Conor O'Malley and Ashlyn Deger. Family would like to thank Mebane Ridge Assisted Living Staff for their compassion and care. Friends are invited to call from 5:00 to 7:00 on Thursday October 29, 2015 at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main Street Sidney, NY. Funeral service and celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 am on Friday October 30, 2015 at St. Matthews Episcopal Church, 240 Main Street in Unadilla, NY. Burial will follow in St. Matthews Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may kindly consider a memorial donation to St. Matthews Episcopal Church c/o Rev. Scott Garno.
