Jesse A. Johnson, Jr. Sidney, New York Jesse A. Johnson, Jr., beloved husband and devoted father, entered eternal rest on Tuesday, October 20, 2009 after enjoying 84 years of life. Residing in Sidney for the past 38 years, he is survived by his wife and best friend of 56 years Edeltrud, daughter Angelina Wermel and husband Gunar, son Jess Marcus Johnson and wife Ruthie, and grandchildren Brandon and Erik Wermel and Sandra Johnson. Born on January 10, 1925 to Jesse A. and Oma E. (Newell) Johnson on the family farm near Mt. Pleasant, TX, he attended schools in Texas and Arkansas before graduating from Fort Smith High School, Texas in 1943, and Oklahoma A&M University, (Oklahoma State University) in 1950. Jesse served his country with the US Navy SeaBees in the Asiatic Pacific Theater during World War II and as a member of the Army Corp of Engineers here and abroad in Europe and Vietnam. After retiring from the military, he worked for NYSEG and spent 17 years as Superintendent of the Jenison Station in Bainbridge. Besides serving his community as a Rotarian for 40 years, he will always be remembered by his family as a humanitarian, consummate craftsman, naturalist and wise observer of life. He set a wonderful example of love, faithfulness, truthfulness, loyalty and selfless service to loved ones and friends. At Jesse's request, his body will be donated to the Albany Medical College. To honor his wishes, there will be no viewing hours. Burial will be private at Arlington National Cemetery.
