Veronica H. (Mertz) Shupperd

Veronica Helen (Mertz) Shupperd passed away peacefully at 91 years old on Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at Wilson Regional Medical Center in Johnson City.
Veronica was born on February 26, 1924 in Bainbridge, daughter of the late Joseph and Ellen (Jerome) Mertz. During World War II, she honorably served in the United States Navy until her discharge in 1946. Following her discharge, she was married to Charles William "Bill" Shupperd, and shared 67 happy years of marriage before he predeceased her in April 2014. She was a dedicated member of Sacred Heart Church as well as the Rosary Society. Veronica's family was the center of her life: she was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by: four daughters: Cathleen Shupperd of Sidney, Barbara (Doug) Williams of Victor, NY, Joanne (Larry) Postulka of Simpsonville, SC and Mary (Richard) Savage of Binghamton; two sons: James (Jerri) Shupperd of Sidney and John (Ondrea Northrup) Shupperd of Sidney; nine grandchildren: Jeffrey Shupperd of Sidney; Cherie (Richard) Dragomani of Victor, Michelle (Matthew) Boyle of Macedon, NY, Matthew (Kathryn) Postulka of Medfield, MA, Bryan Postulka of Greenville, SC, Petty Officer 2nd Class Andrew Postulka of Quantico, VA, Timothy Shupperd of Sidney, Joseph Shupperd of Sidney and Jared Shupperd of Sidney; eight great-grandchildren: Owen and Madison Dragomani, Emma, Natalie and Caitlin Boyle and Brooke, Jaclyn and Saige Postulka. She is also survived by three sisters: Ellen Hogan, Theresa Horton and Augusta Shifflett; and three brothers: Jerome, George and Alfred Mertz and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Bill, Veronica was predeceased by sisters, Loretta Frank and Rita Mertz and brothers, Joseph Mertz and Frederick Mertz.
Friends are invited to call from 5:00-7:30pm on Thursday, July 16, 2015 at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St. Sidney. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00am on Friday, July 17th at Sacred Heart Church, 15 Liberty St. Sidney with Fr. Gordon Polenz, pastor officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Sidney.
