Donald W. Niles, Sr.
Bainbridge—Donald W. Niles, Sr., 85, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 13, 2015. He was born on December 29, 1929 in Oxford, NY, son of the late Roland and Gladys (Walker) Niles. Don attended Bainbridge Central School. He enlisted in the US Marine Corps in January 1947, where he received numerous medals including the Korean Service Medal with 3 Stars, and served until his honorable discharge in 1952. On November 26, 1951, he was married to Phyllis Cutting in the Afton Baptist Church.
Don was a 22 year employee of Borden Chemical Co., a farmer for 6 years and a School Bus Driver for many more. He coached little league baseball and was a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church of Bainbridge where he spent many years in youth leadership.
Don is survived by: his wife, Phyllis Niles; four children: Lenora Niles, Denise Niles, Donald Niles, Jr. and Phillip Niles; 7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; 5 siblings: Phyllis Cutting, Ann Peterson, Roland Niles, Rachael Holmes and Gerald Niles, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Don was predeceased by his son, Ross Niles, and a sister, Janice Heslin.
Friends may call from 7:00-9:00pm on Thursday, July 16, 2015 at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St. Sidney. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Friday, July 17th at the First Baptist Church, 12 South Main St. Bainbridge, NY 13733. Burial with military honors will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the Association for Vision Rehabilitation & Employment, 174 Court St. Binghamton, NY 13901.
