John McConnell, Mt. Upton, NY
John McConnell, 78 of Mt. Upton passed away peacefully Thursday, June 25, 2015 at his home. He was born November 29, 1936, son of the late George and Bernice (Baxter) McConnell in Mercer County Illinois. He graduated from Alexis High School and served his country in the United States Army for 2 years. John married Lois Utter on June 3, 1962 in Bainbridge, NY; together they made their home in Mt. Upton. John worked for Frontier Communications for 38 years until he retired. Even after retirement, John kept busy working part time driving for McCredy's in Norwich. He was also the Tech inspector for the NYTPA (NY Tractor Pullers Association). John served his community as a member of the Borden Hose Co. in Mt. Upton and Rockdale. He was a lifetime member of the Chenango County Fire Police and the Chenango Co. Fireman Association. John also volunteered at the Maplewood Cemetery in Mt. Upton and was a past leader for Cub Scout Pack 60 and Boy Scout Troop 60 in Mt. Upton. John enjoyed being a member of the Sidney Boat Club, T.O.Y.S., Toys of yesterday, the Sidney Elks and the Sidney Moose Lodge, the Guilford Historical Society, Unadilla Valley Historical Society, and Rockdale and Unadilla Rod and Gun Clubs, and was a member of the Chenango County Amateur Radio Association. John was also a member of the Mt. Upton United Methodist Church and the American Legion Franklin Post.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lois McConnell, Mt. Upton

He was also predeceased by brother, James Delferd McConnell and sister, Helen Chapman
Friends may call Monday, June 29, 2015 from 6-9 PM at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel 21 Main St. Sidney
Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 30, at 11:00 AM in the funeral chapel,Rev. Brandilynne Craver of the Mt. Upton United Methodist Church will officiate.
Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery in Mt. Upton
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Mt. Upton United Methodist Church or the Borden Hose Co. Mt. Upton.
