Christopher Thomas Gross, 26, of Gilbertsville, passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2015. He was born on August 25, 1988, son of Debra (Wilber) and Thomas Gross.
Chris graduated from GMU Central School with the Class of 2006 and enlisted in the US Marine Corp where he remained for 8 years, stationed in Jacksonville, NC. Chris served 3 tours of duty: one in Iraq and two in Afghanistan. Chris served as a Sergeant and in MARSOC Special Operations for 5 years. At the time of his discharged, he was in Infantry Unit 2/8. He received several awards and medals for his service.
In December 2011, Chris was married to Kassandra Way. Together, they had their first child, Haley, now age 3. His second child, Eleanor Marie Gross, is expected July 10, 2015.
In 2014, Chris was honorably discharged and moved to Idaho with his wife and family, where he worked for BNSF Railroad as a train conductor. He was a member of the Gilbertsville Fire Department Junior Firemen; FD EMS Explorers Post 44, Boy Scouts Troop 44 and the Gilbertsville Baptist Church, where he was baptized and nurtured in his faith.
He is survived by: his children; his mother, Debra Gross; grandmother, Dorothy Wilber and his siblings: Sue Ellen, Leighann, Dustin, Hannah, Courtney, Katie, Deandre, Mya, Natalie, Emily, Connor, Luke and Jordan Gross. He is also survived by aunts and uncles: Sue Wilber, Sharon and Steve Herrmann, Kathy and Rick Pope and Bethany Fite, along with several cousins, and a niece, Jocelyn Gross.
Chris was predeceased by his dad, Tom, in 2012, his sister, Becky, in 2001 and two uncles, Doug and Jim Wilber.
Friends are invited to call from 7:00-9:00pm on Tuesday, June 30, 2015 at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St. Sidney. Funeral services and military honors will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at the Gilbertsville Baptist Church with Rev. Kurt Funke and Rev. Randy Palada officiating. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery, Gilbertsville, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to Autismspeaks.org.
