Kenneth Reed Davidson, 96, of James Street in Sidney, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 19, 2015 at A.O. Fox Hospital in Oneonta.
Reed was born July 22, 1918 in Franklin, son of the late Clifford E. and Clara (Bourne) Davidson. He graduated from A.L. Kellogg High School in Treadwell. On January 13, 1952, he married Shirley (Peg) Hard.
Reed was a World War II Army veteran, serving in the 29th Infantry Division in France, Holland, Normandy and Germany with the Heavy Weapons Co. 81mm mortars. He received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star and 3 Battle Stars for injuries sustained during combat in the European Theatre.
Additionally, he received the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged in February 1946.
He was employed by E.C.D. of Bendix for 41 years, working as a machine operator and gage inspector until his retirement in 1981. He enjoyed traveling, hunting and fishing, gardening and restoring antiques. He belonged to the Joyce-Bell American Legion Post in Unadilla, the 29th Division Association Post 8 in Washington D.C. and was a member of the Sidney United Methodist Church.

And many nieces and nephews
In addition to his parents, Reed was predeceased by his sisters and brothers-in-law, Eleanor and Hank Shultis and Dorothy and Arnold Cartwright, and his brothers and sisters-in-law, Lawrence and Elsie Davidson, Donald Davidson and Bruce Davidson and his wives, Lizzy and Louise.
Graveside services with military honors will be held at 12:00noon on Friday, June 5, 2015 in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Sidney. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the Sidney Fire Dept. and Emergency Squad, 74 River St. Sidney, NY 13838 or to the United Methodist Church, 15 Liberty St. Sidney, NY 13838.
