Obituary of Hanna M. Scanlon

Hanna M. Scanlon Sidney, NY Hanna M. Scanlon, 95 of Sidney passed away peacefully Sunday, March 15, 2015 at Chenango Memorial Nursing Facility in Norwich. She was born January 10, 1920, daughter of the late Gottlieb and Maria (Rieser) Ackeret in Geburtsschein, Switzerland. Hanna and her family immigrated to the United States and arrived in NYC in 1925. They moved to Sidney in 1928 and Hanna graduated from Sidney Central School in 1937. Hanna married John J. Scanlon on February 17, 1943 in South Carolina; He predeceased her on April 3, 1986. Hanna became a United States citizen on April 2, 1957. Hanna was employed as a nurse's aide at The Hospital in Sidney and was a dedicated member of the First Congregational Church in Sidney; Hanna also enjoyed spending time with friends at Senior Meals in Sidney She loved animals especially cats and dog. Her positive attitude and outgoing personality will be missed by all who knew her. Hanna is survived by Son – David (Bonnie) Scanlon, Sidney Grandchildren – Amy Oliver, Bainbridge, Carlee Tuttle, Sidney and Brad (Anna) Lathan, Cheektowaga Great grandchildren, Corey and Ashley Oliver, Bainbridge, Easton Lathan, Cheektowaga Sister-in-law – Betty Ackeret, Sidney, Nieces and nephews She is also predeceased by, Daughter, Barbara Wilson, Grandsons, Tony Scanlon and Brian Lathan and Brother, Gottlieb Ackeret Friends may call Wednesday, March 18, 2015 from 2-4 PM at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel 21 Main St. Sidney. Funeral services will follow at 4 PM with Rev. Pat Robinson, officiating. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery in the spring. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her name to the Delaware Valley Humane Society 101 East Main St. Sidney.
