Marie Theresa McCann, 84, formerly of Sidney, passed away on Saturday, March 7, 2015. She was born on November 22, 1930, daughter of the late Andrew J. and Catherine (Rhatigan) Gavin in Brooklyn, NY. On February 11, 1951, Marie was married to Walter V. McCann, Sr. in Brooklyn. In 1973, they relocated to Sidney. Walter predeceased her in January 1999.
Marie was an avid reader with a keen mind. She enjoyed and was very gifted at crossword puzzles, Trivial Pursuit and Jeopardy. She knew a little bit about just about everything.
Marie is survived by:
Three Children: Patricia Scarinzi and her companion, Kim (Kal) Warner of Avoca, NY; Stephen McCann and his wife, Suzen of North Carolina and BJ McCann and his fiancé, Cherokee King of Sidney
Grandchildren: Alison and Nick Bateman and Sarah and Aaron Wyland of Jasper, Indiana; Karlee McCann of North Carolina and Jamie McCann of Vienna, Switzerland
Great-Grandchildren: Connor, Jared, Brooklyn and Claire, all of Jasper, Indiana
Brother and sister-in-law, Stephen and Joyce Gavin of Union Town, PA
As well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her husband, Marie was predeceased by her son, Walter V. McCann, Jr.; three sisters, Kathleen, Patricia and Sally; and her brother, Andrew.
Friends are invited to call from 6:00-9:00pm on Wednesday, March 11, 2015 and from 11:00am-12noon on Thursday, March 12th at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St. Sidney, NY 13838. Funeral services at the funeral chapel will be held at 12:00 noon with Msgr. James Cox of Sacred Heart Church officiating on Thursday following visitation.
Graveside committal services will be held at 12:00noon on Friday, May 22, 2015 in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Sidney.
To honor Marie's love of dogs, memorial donations in her memory may be directed to Laura's Hope Rescue, 3385 Forest St., Hop Bottom, PA 18824.
