Myrtle B. Oglesby, 91, passed away on Friday, February 20, 2015 at the New York State Veterans Home in Oxford, NY. She was surrounded by her children and grandchildren, and passed into the next world peacefully.
Myrtle was born December 17, 1923 in Equinunk, PA, daughter of the late John and Florence (Bovee) Blum. She was one of 8 children.
In 1944, Myrtle married Arlen Oglesby in South Carolina. He predeceased her in November 1989. Myrtle worked as a welder in a shipyard during World War II. She and Arlen moved their family to Sidney, NY in 1960 where she went to work at Scintilla. She worked in the Scintilla Cafeteria before becoming an Inspector for the company. She was a longtime dedicated member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by: her children: Sharon Wickes, Port Orange, FL; Larue Brower, Unadilla; Helen (Philip) Russ, Goode, VA; and Wayne Oglesby; daughter-in-law, Kathy Oglesby, and very special friend, Donald Plants. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
In addition to her parents and husband, Arlen, Myrtle was predeceased by her son, Arlen Edward Oglesby, daughter, Rita Jane Dyer and son-in-law, Paul Wickes. Myrtle was also predeceased by her seven siblings: Clinton, Lester, Robert, Merle and Stanley Blum, Madelyn Kean and Shirley Keesler.
Friends are invited to call from 2:00-4:00pm on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St. Sidney. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm on Wednesday, February 25th at the funeral chapel with Rev. Patricia Robinson officiating. Burial will take place in the spring in Evergreen Hill Cemetery, Unadilla. In lieu of flowers, donations in Myrtle's memory may be made to the Sidney United Methodist Church, 12 Liberty St. Sidney, NY 13838.
