AFTON-- Edward D. Hromada, 71, of Afton, passed away Dec 18 at his home. Ed fought a hard battle with cancer. Ed was born in Delhi, NY on 7 July 1943, he is survived by his mother Florence Hromada and the late Michael Hromada. He is also survived by his wife, Nancy; son, Rodney (Donna) Hromada; daughters, Tami (Dennis) McCurry and Teri Brooks; 7 grandchildren: Scott Correll, Courtney Hromada, Jonathan Correll, Shaun Hromada, Ilona Price, Alex Gorton and Chance Mugglin; and 3 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers: William (Sharleen), Duane (Deborah), Donald (Louise) and Daniel (Tina); and sisters: Florence (Ed) Dibble and Barbara (Charles) Schemerhorn. He was predeceased by brother Michael. He has numerous aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Ed was the longtime owner of Ed's Shoe Store in Bainbridge, NY. He was President of the Bainbridge Chamber of Commerce and the Afton Lake Assoc. and was an active volunteer for the Afton Fire Department for numerous years. A pillar of the Afton United Methodist Church for almost 50 years, Ed ran the Afton Inner church council food pantry, and volunteered at the Bainbridge soup kitchen for years. He was a coach for little league, and was a Boy Scout leader.
Ed was a caring and loving person that will be missed by all. He touched so many hearts in such a positive way during his life. Even in his death he is still giving by giving his body to Albany Medical School.
There will be a celebration of his life Sunday, 21 Dec from 3-5pm at the Afton United Methodist Church, Afton NY. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in his name to the Afton Inner Church Council (Dianne Gardner 1038 Country Rd 30, Afton, NY 13730) for the food pantry or to the Bainbridge Methodist Church for the Bainbridge Soup kitchen.
