Obituary of Clifford L. Smith

Clifford L. Smith Bainbridge, NY Clifford L. Smith 92, of Bainbridge passed away peacefully Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at the NYS Veterans Home in Oxford. He was born April 21, 1922, son of the late Lewis and Lulu (Stringer) Smith in Bainbridge. Clifford lived in Bainbridge most of his life, graduating in 1940 and from the Sidney Vocational School in 1942 later that year he enlisted in the United States Navy. He served in the American and Asiatic Pacific Theatre and was honorably discharged in 1946 at the rank of MM1/c. Clifford worked for a short time at Brewer and Ticher in Binghamton and later returned to Bainbridge to work at Borden's. While employed there he attended several seminars to continue his knowledge of instrument maintenance, vacuum pumps, and air compressors and to be a NYS boiler inspector. Clifford retired after over 40 years of employment. He was also a member of the quarter century club and the IAM Lodge 1278 where he held many offices. Clifford served many years with the Bainbridge Fire Department, volunteered for the Community Chest and was a 4H leader. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and solving mechanical problems. He is survived by: Wife, Alma June Smith, Bainbridge Son, Dwight Smith and his wife Diana of Pleasant Gap, PA Daughter, Karen Smith, Bainbridge Step Son Dale Striegler, Bainbridge 3 Step-daughters, Vicki Lamoreaux, Norma Tansey and Kay Striegler And 6 Grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by 2 brothers, Ronald and Stanley Smith and Sister, Pearl Oralls. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Bainbridge at the convenience of the family.
