Mable Cable, the youngest of eight children born to Walter and Iva Covey Olmstead, died September 3, 2009 at Binghamton General Hospital.
Mable married Robert D. Cable of Treadwell who predeceased her in 1977. Her daughter Mary Lou Cable of Sidney, granddaughter Caryn Cable of Kalamazoo, Michigan, four sisters and two brothers also predeceased her.
Survivors include her son Robert D. Cable, Jr. and wife Cheryl of Gilbert, Arizona; granddaughter Kirsten Cable Ford and great granddaughter Madison Skye Ford of Gilbert, Arizona; grandson Robert D. Cable, III of Schenectady, NY; brother Wilson J. Olmstead of Sidney, NY; niece Joan Hamm and her children, Binghamton, NY and many other nieces and nephews and their families.
For several years Mable and her husband Bob operated Cable's on Main Street, an ice cream parlor, sandwich bar and hangout for Sidney's youth. Mable, Bob and Mary Lou were avid flea marketers for many years, visiting local garage sales and traveling throughout New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana and Michigan looking for bargains and setting up their tables.
Mable and Mary Lou were NASCAR fans, cheering for Jeff and Tod Bodine, Dale and Dale, Jr. Mable was bright, inquisitive, strong willed and devoted to her family. She was loved and will be missed.
Viewing and burial services will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mable's name may be directed to the Sidney Emergency Squad, or to the charity of ones choice. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family online at www.landersfh.com.
