Mark S. Hafele
Unadilla—Mark Steven Hafele, 56, of Unadilla, passed away on Friday, September 5, 2014 at Albany Medical Center. Mark was born on August 20, 1958, son of George and Janette (Wagner) Hafele in Sidney.
Mark led an incredible life. He graduated from Sidney High School with the class of 1976, and worked as a machinist for Amphenol Corp. for 33 years. On October 18, 1980, he was married to Valerie Eggleston in Masonville. Together, they raised their family and shared 33 years of happiness and memories. He loved to travel, taking the family on vacation to Ocean City regularly. He and Val also enjoyed visiting Niagara Falls. The trip wasn't complete without a stop at the casinos: Mark loved to play the slots.
Mark's greatest joy came from spending time with his family. If his grandchildren had a football game or wrestling match, he was there. A sports enthusiast, he enjoyed local dirt track racing, supporting 25W, his cousin. Most days, however, if you were looking for Mark, you would find him on the golf course. He was an accomplished golfer who could be counted on to compete, and often times organize, leagues and tournaments. Mark was also a talented golf smith, making clubs for his family members and many friends.
Mark was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by: his mother, Janette Hafele, Unadilla; his wife, Val Hafele, Unadilla; three children: Greg Eggleston, Bainbridge; Matt and Kelli Hafele, Otego; and Darcee and Mike Lewis, Masonville; 7 Grandchildren: Austin, Braden and Cameron Eggleston, Mallory and Ella Hafele and Kaylen and Korinne Lewis. Also surviving are several aunts and uncles, including special uncle, Dale Wagner; numerous cousins, his Hardwood Hills Family, and multitudes of friends.
He was predeceased by his father, George, and his in-laws, Luther and Marilyn Eggleston.
A celebration of Mark's life will be held on Sunday, September 14, 2014 at Hardwood Hills Golf Course, 11160 State Highway 8, Masonville, NY 13804 beginning at 3:00pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mark's memory may be directed to the Sidney, Unatego or Bainbridge-Guilford Booster Clubs. Condolences and memories may be shared with the family online at www.landersfh.com.
