Robert (Bob) Hoffman, Sr.
Guilford, NY
Robert (Bob) Hoffman, Sr. passed away on September 3, 2014 at his home. He was born and raised on a farm in Guilford, the son of Charles and Ernestine (McLagan) Hoffman. He attended Guilford Central School. Bob was a farmer for a few years prior to going to work at Whitehouse Milk and Cream Co. in Guilford for five years and then on to Chenango Valley Co-op Creamery in Oxford for five years. While working in these creameries, he was a licensed NYS Milk Tester. He went to work at Bendix Corp. (now Amphenol Corp.) as a machinist for 30 years, retiring in 1988. While there, he was a member of the Machinist Union #1529.
He was a member of the Guilford Fire Department and Emergency Squad, serving as Captain as well as Chief for one year. Bob was one of the original members of the emergency squad.
On December 10, 1954, he married Marjorie Sloane Bellinger in Sidney, and they made their home in Guilford.
Bob is survived by: 2 daughters, Gail M. Hoffman of Guilford and Patricia A. Scheidegger of Unadilla; as well as 3 sons: Mark J. and Marguerite Hoffman of Guilford, Charles R. and Mary Beth Bellinger of Liverpool and Robert V. Hoffman; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. His wife, Marjorie, predeceased him on January 19, 2005. Bob was also predeceased by a grandson.
Friends are invited to call from 1:00-3:00pm on Sunday, September 7, 2014 at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St. Sidney. Funeral services will follow at 3:00pm with Rev. Kenneth Southworth officiating. Burial will take place at 1:00pm on Monday, September 8th in Greenlawn Cemetery, Bainbridge. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to Hospice & Palliative Care of Chenango County for their compassionate care, and asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to Hospice at 21 Hayes St. Norwich, NY 13815.
