Esther E. Butler, 87, of Oneonta and former resident of Bainbridge, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at her home. Esther was born on December 15, 1926, daughter of the late William and Edna (Hacket) Olds in Morris, NY. She graduated from Morris Central School. On May 5, 1945, she was married to Girard E. Butler in Margaretville. He predeceased her on October 4, 2000 after 55 years of marriage.
Esther was a longtime employee of Bendix in Sidney, retiring in 2004 after 45 years with the company. When her family lived in Bainbridge, Esther was active with the United Methodist Church, teaching Sunday School, helping with holiday plays and was also supportive of the UMC Sky Lake Camp. She also volunteered with the United Way and the American Red Cross. She enjoyed gardening, chocolate and shopping trips, but most of all, Esther loved spending time with her family, and especially her grandchildren.

Daughter, Sandra and John Colburn of Ill.
Daughter, Debra and George Sluti of Oneonta
Grandchildren: Christine Marie (Christopher) of Unadilla, who was also a special caregiver to her grandma; Jonathan (Lorrie) of MA, Katherine (Trevor) of CT, Craig (Carrie) of Ill., Tim of Albany and Kim of Wisc.

Sister, Betty and Richard Walton of Gilbertsville
Numerous nieces and nephews and caregivers Lorraine and Dawn
In addition to her parents and husband, Esther was predeceased by two brothers and their wives, Erford and Gertrude Olds and Larry and Sylvia Olds.
Friends are invited to call from 10:00-11:00am on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St. Sidney. Funeral services will begin at 11:00am at the funeral chapel with Rev. Fred Albrecht officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Bainbridge.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Catskill Area Hospice for their care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to any of the following organizations that were very dear to Esther: Catskill Area Hospice & Palliative Care, any local SPCA or Humane Society, or to the Wounded Warrior Foundation in memory of her nephew, Richard F. Walton, Jr., who was killed in Vietnam.
