Charles L. Cannon, 92, of Trout Creek, passed away on Monday, July 14, 2014 at A.O. Fox Hospital in Oneonta. Charlie was born on April 29, 1922, son of the late Charles M. and Elizabeth (Rallston) Cannon in Johnson City, NY. Following high school, Charlie joined the United States Marines and served from December 1941 until his honorable discharge in December 1945. He was a longtime employee of Amphenol Corp. in Sidney, working as a Tool Maker until his retirement in 1986.
Charlie was married to Margaret Wilsey. They later separated. He spent many years with his long time companion, Leona Ellis, who predeceased him on April 24th.
Charles was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, Sidney Lodge #277, and a former member of the Charles L. Jacobi American Legion Post 183, Sidney, and the Corporal R.H. Arrandale VFW Post 7914, Sidney.
He is survived by:
8 children: Janice Kirk (Oneonta), Michael Cannon (Oneonta), Kathy and Gerald Baker (Oneonta), Terry Cannon (Sidney), Kim Holden (Trout Creek), Charlene and Joe Woehrle (Oneonta), Paula and Dennis Kearney (Oneonta) and Brian Cannon (Binghamton)
As well as several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and his companion, Leona, Charles was predeceased by his son, James Cannon, son-in-law, Butch Kirk, brother, Frank Cannon and sister, Evelyn Musson.
A memorial service will be held at 5:00pm on Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main Street Sidney, with Rev. Fred Albrecht officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to Catskill Area Hospice & Palliative Care, 1 Birchwood Drive Oneonta, NY 13820.
