Obituary of LuAnn Marie Wormsley

LuAnn M. Wormsley Sidney, NY LuAnn (LuLu) Marie Wormsley 46 of Sidney passed away unexpectedly on February 4, 2014 in Binghamton General Hospital. She was born in Sidney to James and Gail (Pritchard) Wormsley on February 20, 1967. She graduated from Sidney High School in 1985. LuAnn enjoyed playing basketball, softball and rugby while in high school and college. She earned her AAS in Early Childhood Education from SUNY Cobleskill. While there she student taught for first grade at Richmondville Central School from 1986 to 1987. LuAnn later earned her BS in recreation and leisure studies from SUNY Brockport. From 1987 to 1990 she was program director at Susquehanna Valley Presbytery Camp in Painted Post. From 1991 to 1992 LuAnn was program director at the Boy’s and Girl’s Club in Sidney. In 1992 she did an internship at the Youth Center at Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho. Also starting in 1992 to 1994 she was a Respite Assistant for DO. Then in 1994 LuAnn moved to Sarasota, FL. She opened Building Blocks Pre-School as well as became a Respite Care Provider for Brandy Parker, a 16 year old with CP. LuAnn later became her guardian. In 1999, LuAnn moved back to Masonville with Brandy. She began working with DSS in 2000 as a foster parent aid and for Cullman Center in Sidney. In 2001 she became a Foster Care Mother and was known to many of the kids as Mama Lu. In 2003, LuAnn had the opportunity to adopt the love of her life, 2 year old Caitlyn. LuAnn babysat many kids in the Tri-town Area, she enjoyed watching school sports and collecting Coca Cola, Thimbles and NY Yankee stuff. She attended the Masonville Federated Church love to scrapbook and her Dog Zack, who was just like one of her kids. LuAnn is survived by: Her Daughter, Caitlin Wormsley Close friend, Brandy Parker Mother, Gail Wormsley Sister and Brother-in-law – Penny and Peter Hager, Brothers, Randy, Todd and Jamie Wormsley Brother and sister-in-law – Roger and Katie Wormsley Nephews – Tyler Wormsley, Nathan Hager, Kyle Wormsley Nieces – Jessica Wormsley and Mary Hager Aunts, Fran Carroll, Delores Mattison, Betty Pritchard, Louella Popovich, Joyce McAdams, Ann Marie Fredenburg. She had a very special bond with her cousin Chris Pritchard also several cousins. She is predeceased by her Father, James Wormsley, Grandparents, Avis and Bill Pritchard, Grandmother Margaret Wormsley. Friends may call February 21, 2014 from 6-8 PM at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel 21 Main St. Sidney. A memorial service will be held February 22, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the Masonville Federated Church with Rev. James Belt officiating. Burial will be in Masonville Cemetery in the spring. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Caitlyn Wormsley and sent to Community Bank 19 Union St. Sidney, NY 13838.
