Obituary of Lester Oliver Winfield

Lester O. Winfield Mt. Upton, NY Lester Oliver Winfield, 86, of Mt. Upton, passed away Friday, January 31, 2014 at Norwich Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born May 15, 1927, son of the late Walter and Alta (Smith) Winfield in Binghamton. Lester married Eleanor E. Pope-Miner on July 26, 1958 in East Guilford. He was employed as a machinist for the Amphenol Corp in Sidney when he retired in 1989. Lester is survived by: Wife, Eleanor Winfield, Mt. Upton 4 sons and 2 daughters: John and Marie Miner of Gilbertsville, Dianna Wheeler of Daytona Beach, FL, Carlton Miner of Sidney, Joan and Ron Wildenstein of Mt. Upton, Gene Miner of Hawaii, and William and Donna Miner of Ocala, FL Daughter-in-law, Lucinda Miner of Bradenton, FL 3 Brothers and 2 sisters: Myrna Ellis of Greene, Ronald and Mitzie Winfield of Camilla, GA, Alvis and Gerry Winfield of Binghamton, Althea Hammond of Port Crane and Donald and Meg Winfield of Sanitaria Springs 22 Grandchildren, 43 Great-Grandchildren and 5 Great-Great-Grandchildren As well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to his parents, Les was predeceased by his son, Donald Miner; two brothers, Jay and Walter Winfield; and a grandson, Scott Miner. Friends may call from 11:00am until 1:00pm on Friday, February 7, 2014 at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St. Sidney. Funeral services will follow at 1:00pm at the funeral chapel with Rev. Thomas Flanders officiating. Burial will take place in the spring in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Sidney. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the First Baptist Church of Mt. Upton, 1749 State Highway 8, Mt. Upton, NY 13809 or to the Mt. Upton United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 199, Mt. Upton.
