Obituary of David Harry Wood

Rev. David H. Wood Bainbridge, NY and Leesburg, FL Rev. David H. Wood, beloved husband, father and pastor, passed away at sunrise on Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at his home in Bainbridge with his wife by his side. His loving and merciful Lord, whom he served all the days of his life, called him home early from the pain and suffering he was going to endure. David was born on April 25, 1940 in Bradford, PA, son of Harry and Mary Wood. He graduated from Barrington College, received his Bachelors of Theology from Clarksville School of Theology and his Master's and Doctor of Divinity from International Bible Seminary of Orlando, FL. For 18 years he traveled the North East as a salesman for Diversa Sign Company. During those years he was a Youth Director and Deacon. He was a founding member of the Fellowship Baptist Church in Unadilla. He started full time ministry as a Pastor of the West Bainbridge Baptist Church in August 1977. He was Pastor there for 25 years until he retired May 2002. He was interim pastor at Sidney Baptist Church for 2 years. He was also manager at Sidney Senior Village for 17 years retiring in 2008. He founded Independent Associated Missions in 1985. He was able to do short term mission trips to Russia and Haiti. Many national missionaries were hosted in his home. He enjoyed the desire of his heart by spending his winters at Mid Florida Lakes, Leesburg, FL. At Mid Florida Lakes, he was involved in the Coast Guard Auxiliary and also helped start a new church "Legacy Baptist Church", where he was also an associate pastor. David is survived by: his wife of 52 years, Janice Wood; daughter, Shelly Wilcox and her husband, Ken, of Binghamton; son, Chris Wood and his wife, Neela, of Jacksonville, FL; son, James Wood and his wife, Audrey, of Delevan, NY; his grandchildren: Michael and Rachel Wilcox, Jordan Wood, Darren, Amber and Devin Wood, Sierra Sluce and her husband, Ryan, and Anna, Jaden, Alexia, Jocelyn and Draven Scott; and a great-granddaughter, Paysen Sluce. He is also survived by a brother, Richard Wood and his wife, Lolita, of Morrisville, NY; a sister, Janice Andrews of Burbank, CA and numerous nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be from 10:00-11:00am on Saturday, August 3, 2013 followed by a memorial service at 11:00am at the First Baptist Church of Sidney, 28 River St. Sidney, NY 13838. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in David's memory may be directed to the Independent Associated Missions at P.O. Box 221 Bainbridge, NY 13733.
