Obituary of Charles C. Walters

Charles C. Walters Sidney, NY Charles C. Walters, 76, of Sidney, passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2013 at Tri-Town Regional Hospital in Sidney. Charles was born in Brooklyn on March 25, 1937 to William and Margaret Walters, the fourth of six children. He grew up in Broad Channel, Queens. He married Alice Piorkowski on April 20, 1958. Charles was a proud retired member of the Sheet Metal Workers International Association Local Union 28. He also served honorably in the United States Navy from January 1956 to his discharge in November 1957. Charles and Alice moved to Lindenhurst Long Island in the fall of 1962 to raise their children. Charles loved spending time with his family. Often the neighborhood children would knock on the door and say, "Mrs. Walters, can Charlie come out to play?" In 1976, Charlie moved his family to Unadilla, NY. Charlie loved to take his family on camping trips, hitting the road with his pop up camper, going from Maine to Florida most of the summer and stopping at every state park, military fort and amusement park along the way. He was a Brooklyn Dodger fan and dog lover, often carrying treats for any pup he might meet. Charlie is survived by: his wife of 55 years, Alice Walters; his children: Charles (Theresa) Walters, Alice (Eric Anderson) Walters, Daniel (Carolyn) Walters and Peggy (Eric) Benjamin; nine grandchildren; one great grandson; two brothers: William Walters and George Walters; two sisters: Jeannette Bowman and Sally Rafferty; and good friend Bill Barriger. He was predeceased by a sister, Anna Hudik. He will be deeply missed by his family including his grand doggies: Shana, Andre, Paris, The Nik, Indy, Pugsley and Ava. Friends are invited to call from 12:00noon to 1:00pm on Friday, August 2, 2013 at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St. Sidney, NY. A prayer service will begin at 1:00pm at the funeral chapel with Fr. Gordon Polenz, pastor of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Charles' memory may be directed to the Delaware Valley Humane Society, 101 E. Main Street Sidney, NY 13838 or to a charity of ones choice.
