Stewart M. Brooks, Sr., 90, of Bainbridge, died peacefully at home on Saturday, July 13, after a brief illness. Born in Sidney, Stewart was the son of William and Mable Brooks.
A 1942 graduate of Sidney High School, Stewart held a B.S. degree from the Albany College of Pharmacy and a M.S. from the Philadelphia College of Science and Pharmacology. A 1942-45 veteran of World War II, he took part in the D-Day invasion of Normandy as well as the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium.
Stewart was a gifted educator, and for 35 years, taught the basic medical sciences to nursing students at Lasell College, Boston City Hospital and Newton Wellesley Hospital.
In 1962 he published Integrated Basic Science, at the time the only text available to the nursing profession offering an integrated presentation of physics, chemistry, microbiology, anatomy and physiology.
