Barbara S. McDougal, 90, of Binghamton and formerly of Sidney, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 16, 2013 at Wilson Regional Medical Center in Johnson City. She was born on January 16, 1923, daughter of the late Henry and Lulu Seymour in Bainbridge. After high school, Barb graduated from Ridley-Lowell Business School. She was a longtime employee of Victory Market and Great American in Sidney, working in the office and as a cashier, until her retirement in 1975.
Barb was a devoted member of the Sidney United Methodist Church. She enjoyed watching Mets Baseball, Lawrence Welk, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. She was an avid reader and was known to read an entire book in a single day. Barbara had a smile that could light up any room, and it was always shining on her friendly face.
She loved the holidays, and especially enjoyed cooking for and being with her family. They were the most important thing in her life. Barb will be dearly missed by: two grandsons, Jeffrey Harrington and Scott Harrington; great-grandson, Gavin Harrington Guy; son-in-law, Wayne Harrington; nephew, James (Jane) Bridger; grandniece, Terry Bridger; grandnephew, Mike (Diane) Bridger; great-grandnephew and nieces, Conor, Kira and Kallie Maginnis and Sarah Bridger; and several dear friends, including George and Jean Weed, Pastor Ben and Kathy Shaw, Joe and Nancy Noxel, Peg and Fran Mabel, Thena and Lillian.
In addition to her parents, Barb was predeceased by her son, Ralph McDougal, Jr., daughter, Margaret Harrington, brother, Pete, sister, Myra, and a grandniece, Christen.
Friends are invited to call from 2:00-3:00pm on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St. Sidney. Funeral services will begin at 3:00pm at the funeral chapel with Rev. Benjamin Shaw officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Bainbridge. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Sidney United Methodist Church, 12 Liberty St. Sidney, NY 13838.
