Obituary of Mabel G. Ruff

Mabel G. Ruff Sidney, NY Mabel Gertrude Ruff, 91, of Sidney, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 in Spencer, NY at her son's home. Mabel was born on September 6, 1921, daughter of the late Samuel and Elizabeth (Hulsemeyer) Engle in Anna, Ohio. After graduating from high school, Mabel was married to Lenord R. Ruff on January 3, 1946. They later relocated from Ohio to the tri-town area. Lenord predeceased Mabel on April 29, 1988 after 42 years of marriage. Her family and her faith were the two most important things in Mabel's life. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Mabel was a devoted long time member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Sidney where she gave of her time and talents in her younger years to a number of church activies including dinners and bake sales. She loved to socialize with her church family and her numerous friends. She also enjoyed quilting and baking. Mabel is survived by six children: David and Jeanne Ruff (Spencer), Steven and Joan Ruff (Raleigh, NC), Thomas Ruff and Julie McSherry (Red Hook, NY), Wayne and Connie Ruff (Oneonta), Paul Ruff (Unadilla) and Karen and Tom McWeeney (Grifton, NC); 19 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, two special nieces, Lois Yinger and Carol Schafer, as well as several other nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Mabel was predeceased by her daughter, Dianne Lois Ruff, 3 sisters and a brother. Friends are invited to call from 2:00-4:00pm on Sunday, April 21, 2013 at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St. Sidney. Funeral services will be held at 10:00am on Monday, April 22nd at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 139 West Main St. Sidney with Rev. Ernie Varga officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery, Sidney Center. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to St. Luke's Church, the Sidney Senior Meals Van Fund or to a local hospice organization.
