Nelson Douglas Beach
Masonville, NY
The world is a little smaller today; Nelson Douglas Beach has joined The Father Above on October 12, 2012. He suffered from esophageal cancer caused by gastritis reflux disease. Nelson, known as "Sam" to his family and some friends, was the youngest child of Betty Sibley Beach and the late Mahlon Beach (1980), born December 6, 1958, in Sidney. Nelson grew up in Masonville on a farm on Parker Hollow Road along with his 9 siblings and attended Masonville and Sidney Schools. At age 18, he enlisted in the US Army and married Patricia DuMond, daughter of Muriel and Keith DuMond of Bainbridge.
In order to support his growing family Nelson cut and delivered fire wood, that started his love of working in the woods. He was to become one of the better loggers of the area. "Logging for the Future" was his motto. For over 25 years he harvested timber around the area, it became his way of life.
Nelson had four children: Lucas DuMond, Ruby Beach, Luther Beach and Amber Beach; and six grandchildren: Daniel, Candice, Denise, Mason, Hunter and Elliot, whom he loved to "squeeze" when ever he could. He and his love Peg Whritenour, of over 24 years, still lived in Masonville. He enjoyed building and gardening and a lot of country music and a little bit of rock and roll. He played his guitar and sang to his friends and loved ones.
Survived by: Peg, his children, loving mother, brothers and sisters and their spouses:
Thelma and Hank, Bobby & Dave, Ed & Sheree, Mahlon and Ellen, Russ, Ernie, Dolly (Kathy), Marion & Stub, Marty& Jen, many nieces and nephews, cousins aunts and many friends.
Nelson did not stray far from his birthplace for he will be resting next to his Father in Masonville Cemetery. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, October 17, 2012. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.landersfh.com.
