Obituary of June M. Tompkins

June M. Tompkins Sidney, NY June M. Tompkins, 85, of Sidney, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, July 12, 2012. June was born on August 20, 1926, daughter of the late Thomas E. and Olwen (Lodwick) Miles in Kingston, PA. She graduated from Ilion High School with the Class of 1944 and went on to attend Albany Medical College for two years for radiology. On September 27, 1947, June was married to Howard D. Tompkins in Ilion, NY. Howard predeceased her on September 17, 1990 after nearly 43 years of marriage. In 1960, June began working at The Hospital in Sidney as a radiological technician, retiring in 1981. Following retirement, June worked part-time with Edward Wessels at Sidney House of Flowers. June was an active member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Sidney, a member of the Sidney Fire Department & Emergency Squad Ladies Auxiliary as well as the Friends of the Sidney Library. For numerous years, June enjoyed playing bridge and was in the Women's Bridge Club. She was also a former member of the Prospect Hill Cemetery Association. June was a kind and loving person, touching the lives of everyone she met. She will be truly missed. June is survived by her daughter, Debra J. Tompkins of Sidney; one granddaughter, Mara Tompkins; her twin sister, Jean Clifford of Agawam, MA; cousins: Betsy Matthias, Ruth Matthias, Paul and Linda Matthias and Arlene Ebert, as well as all of the Rowell family in Rochester, NY and several other nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband, Howard, June was predeceased by her son, Duane A. Tompkins on June 22, 1997. Friends are invited to call from 6:00-8:00pm on Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main Street Sidney, NY 13838. Funeral services will take place at 12:00noon on Wednesday, July 18th at the funeral chapel with Rev. Michael Shank officiating. Burial will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Sidney. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in June's memory may be directed to either St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 25 River St. Sidney, NY 13838 or to Friends of Bassett Healthcare Network-TRH, 1 Atwell Drive Cooperstown, NY 13326.
