Ethel B. Estes Oxford, NY Ethel B. Estes, 100, of Oxford and formerly of Sidney Center, passed away on Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at Bida Adult Home in Oxford where she has resided for the past ten years. Ethel was born on January 11, 1912, daughter of the late Elmer and Dora (Vermilya) Birtch in Dunraven, NY. She was married to Robert D. Estes on April 26, 1930 in Walton, NY. He predeceased her on July 1, 1977. Ethel was a longtime employee of E.C.D. of Bendix (present day Amphenol) in Sidney, working as a coil winder for 35 years and retiring in 1977. She was a member of the I.A.M. & A.W. Local 1529 Union. Ethel greatly enjoyed crocheting and was exceptionally good at it. Ethel is survived by her step-son and his wife, Gerald and June Estes of Fabius, NY, several grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and her many friends at Bida Home. In addition to her husband, Ethel was predeceased by her step-son, Lionel Estes, her step-daughter, June Wayman, and her brother, James Birtch. Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St. Sidney, NY 13838. Burial will take place in the spring in Walton Cemetery, Walton. In lieu of flowers, Ethel wished that memorial contributions in her memory be directed to the Sidney Center Emergency Squad. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.landersfh.com.
