Myrtle A. Dixon Sidney, NY Myrtle A. Dixon, age 94, of Sidney NY, passed away Sunday, November 20, 2011 at Fox Memorial Nursing Home, Oneonta, NY. She was born in Sidney, NY, December 18, 1916 and was the oldest daughter of the late Vivia (Hubbell) and Hobart L. Barnes, also of Sidney, NY. She was very active in the order of the Eastern Star, Sidney, and Masonville, NY, where she once served as Grand Matron and also served many years as Musician. Myrtle was an avid piano player and occasionally filled-in as organist at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Sidney, where she was a member until her illness. During her life time Myrtle had been employed with the (Scintilla Division) Amphenol Corp., Sidney, and Bates Real Estate, Sidney, but her "greatest job" was with The Sidney Public Library where she retired at age 80. Books and reading were one of Myrtle's passions. She was married to Malcolm M. Misner, November 1933 and later married Fredric M. Dixon, December 1951. She is survived by three daughters and one son-in-law: Joan M. Crandall of Oneonta, NY, Judy and George Lieungh of Clarksville, TN and Diane Arnold of Saline, MI. Also, a brother and sister in law, Dr. Sheldon H. and Lucille Barnes of Melbourne, FL and a sister and brother in law, Joyce and Edwin Pearthree of Lake Ridge, VA. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, 11 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great grandchildren. Myrtle was preceded in death by her husband, Fredric "Dick" Dixon, her sisters Shirley Barnes, Jean Kessler, Marjorie D'Aprix, and her sons-in-law, Gerald M. Crandall and Kenneth Arnold. There will be a private service for the family at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, Sidney, NY. Burial will be at Butternut Valley Cemetery, Gilbertsville, NY. There will also be a "Celebration of Life" service for Myrtle with her family members and friends that will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, 1 Birchwood Drive, Oneonta, NY 13820. Condolences may be sent online to www.landersfh.com.
