Gladys E. Parker Sidney, NY Gladys E. Parker, 98, of Sidney, passed away peacefully on November 11, 2011 at A. O. Fox nursing home. Gladys was born January 1, 1913, in Harpursville, N.Y., daughter of the late Chester and Emma (Livingston) Tillford. Gladys married Lewis "Lew" Parker August 29, 1931, in the Harpursville Methodist Church. They were married for 61 wonderful years. Lewis predeceased her on May 4, 1992. Gladys spent her childhood in Harpursville and then moved to Sidney, N.Y. following her marriage. She lived the remainder of her life in Sidney. Gladys graduated from the Harpursville grammar school and the Afton High School. Subsequently, she attended Lowell Business School in Binghamton. Gladys was elected to the position of Town of Sidney Tax Collector serving from 1960 to 1972. Subsequent to serving as Tax Collector, she was appointed to the position of Town of Sidney Highway Department bookkeeper in 1972 and held that position until she retired in 1978. Additionally, she served as a Town of Sidney Republican Committee person, Town of Sidney Election Inspector, and Sidney High School Election Inspector. Gladys was an active member of the Sidney Methodist Church, was affiliated with the Sidney Hospital as a volunteer and was an active member of the MacDonald Hose and Department fireman's auxiliary for 64 years. She is survived by her daughter Jean Warner and companion Sherman Carson of Sidney, a son Peter W. Parker and his wife Sandy Parker of Loomis, CA. Granddaughters Senta Parker of El Dorado Hills, CA; Martha Shively of Sacramento, CA and grandson, Meco Luna of Cameron Park, CA. Great grandchildren; Madison Hanscom of Sacramento, CA; Spencer Hanscom of Sacramento, CA, Cameron Shively of Sacramento, CA and Robinette Rhone of Virginia Beach, Virginia as well as a brother-in-law and sister-in-law Wilbert and Helen Hawver of Cortland. Additionally, she is survived by several nieces, nephews and good friends. She was predeceased by son-in-law, Donald Warner; sister and brother-in-law, Ethel and Joeseph O'Mara; sister and brother-in-law Charlotte and Fred Videtto; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Douglas and Viola Parker; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Thelma and Leonard Wart; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Paul and Ina Parker. Visiting hours will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday, November 17, 2011 at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St. Sidney. A Fire Department Auxiliary service will take place at 7:00pm. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, November 18, 2011 at the funeral chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Sidney United Methodist Church at www.sidneyumc.org or to Catskill Area Hospice & Palliative Care, 1 Birchwood Dr., Oneonta, NY 13820.
