Ruth S. Germond

Ruth S. Germond, 95, of Sidney, passed away on Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at A.O. Fox Nursing Home in Oneonta. Ruth was born on September 17, 1915, daughter of the late George and Harriet (Davis) Soules in Grooville, NY. Ruth received her Associates Degree in Child Psychology from SUNY Cobleskill. On September 20, 1941, Ruth married Russell C. Germond at Elm Park Methodist Church in Oneonta. She was an inspector at Bendix Corporation in Sidney. Ruth was a dedicated member of the United Methodist Church in Sidney. She was a member of the United Methodist Women and served as a past president. Additionally, she taught Sunday school for several years. At one time, Ruth was the pianist for the Alliance Church on West Main Street, Sidney.

Ruth is survived by:

Her husband of nearly 70 years, Russell C. Germond of Sidney

Son and daughter-in-law, Russell and Sharon Germond of Masonville

Daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Thomas Tolley of Oneonta

Several grandchildren and great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren

As well as several nieces and nephews.

Ruth was predeceased by four brothers: Ivis Soules, Otto V. Soules, George V. Soules and Otice Soules; and five sisters: Eunice Will, Chella McGar, Lottie Barnhart, Hattie Vandermark and Bessie Babcock.

Friends are invited to call from 10:00-11:00am on Monday, August 22, 2011 at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St. Sidney. Funeral services will follow at 11:00am at the funeral chapel. Burial will be in the Oneonta Plains Cemetery, Oneonta. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Catskill Area Hospice & Palliative Care, 1 Birchwood Drive Oneonta, NY 13820.
