Richard L. Halbert Sidney, NY Richard L. Halbert 89 of Sidney passed away Monday, July 18, 2011 at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown, NY. He was born September 9, 1921, son of the late Truair and Hazel (Earl) Halbert in Gilbertsville. Dick married Erma Turner on May 29, 1952 in Sidney. She predeceased him on April 21, 2007. He was an engineer for Bendix in Sidney for 45 years prior to retiring. Dick was an avid bowler and is a member of the Bowling Hall of Fame. He was a 46 year member of the Sidney Golf and Country Club as well as the Sugarmill Woods Golf Club; he was also a member of West Citrus Elks Lodge #2693 and a past member of the Sidney Fire Department. Dick is survived by his brother, Lawrence and Helen Halbert of Sidney And several nieces, nephew and cousins. He is also predeceased by brothers, Truair, Gerald and Bernald and sisters, Frances Kelly, Doris McDonald and June Marble. The family wishes to thank all of Dicks caregivers especially Michelle McDonald for their commitment and companionship. Friends may call Sunday, July 24, 2011 from 2-3 PM at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel 21 Main St. Sidney. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 PM with Rev. Susan Heafield, Pastor of the Sidney United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Sidney. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Sidney United Methodist Church 12 Liberty St. Sidney, NY 13838 or the charity of ones choice.
