Leon R. VanCamp, 81, of Bainbridge, NY, went to meet his maker on Sunday, May 29, 2011. Leon was born in Buffalo, NY on December 11, 1929, son of Fredia Malchow and Leon VanCamp. He is predeceased by his father and mother, his sister, and Jean Rivenburg, the mother of his son, David VanCamp of Oneida, FL and daughter, Karen Childs of Hinton, WV, both surviving. He is also survived by three grandchildren and four great grandchildren. In 1988, Leon married Hilda Taylor, who also survives him.
Leon was in the Korean Conflict and earned an honorable discharge from the Army Corps. of Engineers as Captain. Leon worked at Amphenol for 30 years as Senior Methods Engineer, retiring in January of 1983. He was the treasurer of the United Methodist Church of Sidney for 14 years. Leon and Hilda were members of Hope Congregational Church in Afton.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Norwich. Memorial contributions in Leon's name may be directed to the National Kidney Foundation at www.kidney.org. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.landersfh.com.
