Obituary of Larry A. Armour

Larry Austin Armour Unadilla, NY Larry A. Armour, 67, of Unadilla passed away on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at Wilson Memorial Hospital in Johnson City. Larry was born on May 21, 1943, son of William and Helen (Gifford) Armour in Bainbridge. Larry served honorably in the United States Navy from 1963 to 1967, where he also played football. Upon his discharge, Larry attended Lycoming College in PA where he played soccer for a year before transferring to SUNY Oneonta. In college, he was a member of Kappa Delta Rho Fraternity. On June 12, 1969, Larry was married to Thelma Gail "Tigi" Shoecraft at Friends Church in Unadilla. They shared 41 years of marriage together. Larry was a history teacher at Sidney Central School for 34 years. During his tenure, he was also a coach of numerous sports including Varsity Rifle Team, Varsity Track, and Modified Basketball, Football and Soccer. Larry coached multiple state and sectional champions during his coaching career. He also was a score keeper for the Varsity and JV Boys Basketball teams. Larry took part in many Civil War Reenactments. He was a member of Unadilla Friends Church and was also honored as being a member of the Sidney Central School Alumni Association Hall of Fame. Mr. Armour was a surrogate father/grandfather to many, many friends, former students and youth he coached and taught over the years. He was deeply respected and will be truly missed. Larry is survived by: Loving wife, Tigi Armour, Unadilla Son and daughter-in-law, Brendan and Heather Armour, and their daughter, Abigail, of Syracuse Daughter and son-in-law, Brittany and Robert Haessig, and their children, Broden and Marison, of Albany His mother, Helen Armour of Unadilla 2 Brothers and sisters-in-law: Theodore and Susan Armour Edgewater, MD Bruce and Cindy Armour, Franklin, IN Sister, Jayne Morenus, Orlando, FL Several Nieces, nephews and cousins Larry was predeceased by his father, William Armour. Friends are invited to call from 4:00-7:00pm on Saturday, January 22, 2011 at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St. Sidney, NY 13838. A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm on Sunday, January 23rd at the First Congregational Church, 1 Bridge Street, Sidney with Gene Pigford and Rev. Pat Robinson, officiating.
