Edwin Swart Vartanian, 96 of Chelsea passed away on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at Captain Lewis Residence facility in Farmingdale, ME.

Edwin was born on August 5, 1928, in Johnson City. Until the age of 10, he lived with his family in Johnson City and Scranton, PA. Then, he went to live with his loving grandmother, Harriet Swart, in Afton. He graduated from Afton High School in 1946.

After school, Edwin Served in the US Air Force from August 1946 to August 1949.

He Married Pearl P. Palmer in September of 1949. They moved to Bethlehem, PA, where he graduated from Lehigh University with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.

He was immediately employed by the Winchester Repeating Arms Company in New Haven, CT. Over a span of almost 50 years, he rose from designing guns to eventually becoming the director of the design department.

Edwin and Pearl raised 3 children in North Haven and Madison CT. For the last 3 years of his life, he has lived in Maine with his daughter and at the Captain Lewis Residence facility.

Edwin is predeceased by his loving wife Pearl of 61 years and daughter, Ruth Pappacoda.

He is survived by his daughter, Joan Taczli and son, Edwin J. Vartanian. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, and 6 nephews and nieces.

Friends are invited to call from 5:00-7:00 pm on Friday, November 8, 2024 at C.H. Landers Funeral Home in Sidney, NY. Graveside Service with military honors will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 9th at Eastside Cemetery, Afton.
