COVENTRYVILLE – Richard M. Cutting, 79, of County Route 27, stepped peacefully into the arms of his loving Savior Jesus on Saturday morning, Sept. 28, at UHS Wilson Medical Center in Johnson Center, following a sudden illness.
Richard, known by many as Uncle Dick, was born April 7, 1945, in Bainbridge, to Clifford and Viola (Mitchell) Cutting. He graduated from Bainbridge-Guilford Central School in 1965.
He married Sharon L. Comings on Aug. 24, 1968 at the First Baptist Church in Afton. They were married for 56 years. The past several years he was the primary caregiver for Shary, who has battled M.S. for many years.
Growing up in a large family of 13 children, Dick worked from a young age to help support the family. He was known for being a hard worker and for his willingness to help when he saw a need. He was generous to many.
After graduation he went to work for Bendix Corp. in Sidney and then was employed by the NYS DOT, retiring as the superintendent at Bainbridge, after 25 years of service. Following that he drove school bus for Afton Central School for several years before working for 20 years as caretaker for the Afton Edge Apartments.
Dick loved the Lord and loved to sing His praises. He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Afton, then the Berean Bible Church in Greene and was instrumental in the formation and building of the Berean Bible Church in Bainbridge. He had been a member of the choir or on the worship team at these churches and was known for his good and enthusiastic singing voice. He was also active in youth ministry work. He was also an active member of The Impact Project.
Dick enjoyed sports, making maple syrup in the spring, cutting wood, and camping with his family earlier in his life.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon; his two sons and their families - Brian and Becci Cutting of Unadilla, with grandchildren, Noah, Aidan and wife Jewel, Gabriel, and EmmaLeigh; and Joel and Bethany Cutting of Vestal, with grandchildren, Grantham and Amelia. He is also survived by five siblings, Phyllis Niles of Wilmington N.C., Rose Mazzarella of Sidney, Glen (Sharon) Cutting of Sidney, Florence (John) Strong of Norwich, and Elizabeth (Fred) Vroman of NY and FL. A Celebration of Dick's life will be Saturday October 5th, at 1:00 PM, at the Berean Bible Church in Greene NY.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Samaritan's Purse. Dick had a heart for helping people in need with construction projects; making sure children had presents at Christmas, as well as a desire for people to hear the good news of Jesus. Samaritan's Purse is a Christian nonprofit humanitarian relief ministry involved in all of these things. You can give at Samaritanspurse.org
