Richard Marvin Tice, Jr, 86, was born on October 10,1937 in Waterbury, CT and passed away peacefully on August 2,2024 in Binghamton, NY. He was a friend to all as he loved sharing his stories with everyone. Dick is survived by his beloved wife, Carolin (Henry). From a previous marriage, he leaves daughter Kimberly and her husband Michael McKinstry of Morgantown, WV; daughter Carrie and her husband Al Valerio of Southington, CT; son David Tice and his wife Laura of Greenwood, DE; son Dennis Tice and his wife Laura of Prospect, CT. He leaves his stepsons Theodore Roach and his partner Joy Triplett of Old Town Alexandria, VA; and Jeffrey Roach and his partner Mary Chouinard of Cloverdale, CA. Dick leaves behind his grandchildren Hannah and Benjamin McKinstry, Krysta Fitzgerald, Alyssa Lauks, and Nick Valerio, and Brian Tice and 4 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Marcia Tice Fredsall of Richmond, ME. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Marvin Tice and Jean Patterson Wilson Tice; and his sister Donna Tice Ridge of Maryville, TN. After spending his early years in Cheyenne, WY, where his father was stationed during World War II, the family moved back to Cheshire, CT. Dick attended Humiston School and was a member of the first graduating class of Cheshire High School in 1955. At age 16, Dick became a member of the Cheshire Volunteer Fire Department. As a dedicated fire fighter, he rose through the ranks and was voted Chief (1974-1979). At the time of his death, he was the oldest living lifetime member of the CFD. Dick was a member of the Mattituck Drum Corp and marched in President Kennedy's Inaugural Parade in 1961. Dick started his own business, T&L Lawn Service, in 1962. After servicing many clients throughout the Cheshire area, he passed his business to his son David in 1994. Before retiring, Dick became involved in the green industry in Connecticut. He became the Executive Director of the Environmental Industry Council and the Connecticut Groundskeepers Association. In 2009, Dick and Carolin retired to their RV and life on the road, traveling throughout the United States and Canada for 10 years. In 2019, they retired from their retirement and settled in Bainbridge, NY. Dick had a heartfelt and memorable impact on all who interacted with him. A Celebration of Life service will be held October 12, 2024 at 11:00am at the Cheshire Congregational Church, Cheshire, CT, where family and friends are invited to come together to honor Dick's memory and share stories. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Dick's name to the Cheshire Fire Department. May Dick rest in eternal peace, knowing that he was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.
