Ruth Murdock (Curtis) Hovey, 103, passed away on May 23, 2024 in Oneonta, NY. Born in Afton NY on October 19, 1920; Ruth was the daughter of Remmie and Edna Murdock. She grew up working on her grandfather's farm and attended school in Afton. After High School, she went to work at Scintilla (now Amphenol) where she met her first husband, Charles L. Curtis. They were blessed with 3 children: James, Charlene and Robert whom she raised while Charles was away serving in the Navy during WWII. They resided in the beautiful countryside of Bainbridge until Charles' passing in 1981. Ruth was an avid reader and active member of the Eastern Star, which she thoroughly enjoyed serving alongside several family members. In 1995, she married L. Newton Hovey. They resided in Endicott and enjoyed many cherished adventures traveling together before his passing in 2003. She then resided independently in the village of Bainbridge for several years before moving into Oneonta's Heritage at the Plains community where she was affectionately known as "Granny" by her wonderful assisted living aides. She is survived by her sons, James (Terry) Curtis; Robert (Annie) Curtis. Grandchildren, Barbara (John) Kavinsky; Jennifer Sutton; Brenda Curtis (Scott Goodrich); Timothy Curtis; Todd Hovey; Sarah Hovey. Great-Grandchildren: Alyssa, Jacqueline, Hayley, Emily, Kaitlyn, Joshua, Abigail, Whitney and one Great-Great Grandchild. Sister-in-law Arlene Curtis; many beloved nieces, nephews; very special friends and caregivers. She is preceded in death by her first husband, Charles L. Curtis of Bainbridge; second husband L. Newton Hovey of Endicott; Daughter, Charlene Peterson of Sanford NC; granddaughter, Anne Marie Burr; and grandson, Jeffrey Curtis; Grandson-in-law Brian Sutton; and her brothers, Charles Murdock and Chester Cuyle. Ruth especially will be remembered for her strength, her love for her grandchildren, laughter, friendships, and cowboys. The family will hold a private service at C.H.
