Obituary of Justin Edwin Briggs

Justin E. Briggs, 70, of Afton passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family and friends two days before his 71st birthday. Justin grew up on a farm in Deposit with his eight siblings. In 1981 he decided to venture to Bakersfield, California where he drove truck for an oil company. He returned home a few years later to continue his truck driving career with Blue Seal Feeds amongst other companies until his retirement in 2015. Justin loved playing cards with his family and had his own unique style of playing. He loved any and all sports and could recite statistics precisely when asked. His true love was Dirt Track Racing! He was an avid fan until he was helping his nephew every day, then they partnered up on a modified car which was his passion! He later returned to just being a spectator at races. Justin was a kind, loving, generous, thoughtful man who gained the respect of any and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Justin was predeceased by his parents, John and Letha Briggs, brother, Jim and nephew, Wade Decker. He is survived by his siblings, Jack Briggs /Ada Rice, Cathy (Bob) Venth, Jane Skellet, Linda (Joe) Mead, Floyd (Franny) Briggs, Dan (Shelia) Briggs and Susan (Gene) Newton. And many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. As per his wishes a celebration of life will be held on Friday, May 24, from 2-6pm at the Sidney Elks Lodge in Sidney, NY In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Hospice of Chenango County or St. Jude’s Childrens Hospital Arrangements are under the direction of CH Landers Funeral Chapel Sidney.
