Obituary of James Francis Barnes

James F. Barnes, 64, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on March 29, 2024. He was born June 27, 1959, son of the late James and Eleanor (Frazier) Barnes in Hancock. Jim graduated from Mt. Upton High School and in 1981 enlisted in the United State Army. He served in the 82nd Airborne Division and was honorably discharged in 1985. Upon returning home, Jim began his lifelong passion as a stone cutter. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, being outdoors and tending to his animals. Jim leaves behind the love of his life of 33 years, Marion, his daughter, Dana, his grandson and pride and joy, Matthew. He also leaves behind his pooch and co-pilot on morning rides, Axel. Jim was the oldest of his siblings, Richard (Karen), Jeffrey (Bernice), Todd (Shari) and Teresa Scott (William), who survive. He is also survived by his half-sister, Tracie Barnes and his best friend, Don Clapp And many nephews, nieces, and friends. Jim was also predeceased by his sister, Maria Barnes. Jim’s family would like to thank Dr. Pasquale, all of the nurses and staff at the Albany VA Clinic for taking such great care of him. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 3, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at CH Landers Funeral Chapel 21 Main St. Sidney. A memorial service with military honors will be Thursday, April 4, at 11:00am at the funeral chapel. A celebration of life service will be announced later.
