Dorlyn Alyse Burgin, 82, of Otego, NY passed away on February 16th in Oneonta, NY. Dorlyn was born in Delhi, NY to Eli and Ruth Kelly on August 17th, 1941. She attended Sidney High School, graduating in the class of 59. While in high school she was active in the school choir and was selected for the All State Chorus. After graduation she married Bryan Burgin at the Sidney Methodist Church at the age of 17. The newlyweds spent the 1st six months of their marriage in Georgia, returning to NY state where they resided until her passing. Throughout her life she was very active in her community. She was Girl Scout leader for the Sidney Center troop for several years. She was also active in the Sidney Center and Otego Methodist Church where she sang in the choir, and She was also active in the area festival chorus. She was a member of the Tri-Town Theater Group for several years, serving on the board and acting in several plays. She shared her passion for reading by serving on the Sidney Library Board for 2 terms. Dorlyn’s first job was with Earl’s Poultry Farm, working in the Egg Division. She was then briefly employed at Bendix (Sidney, NY). She later pursued her passion for working with children, as a teachers aid, library technician, and Principal’s Secretary. When her husband Bryan started his business as a gunsmith (Burgins Gun Shop), she worked by his side, doing wood stock refinishing, as well as serving as his Business Manager. Upon closure of the business in 2006, she returned to work as a teachers aid for Afton and Sidney Central Schools until she retired in the spring of 2018. She was a devoted wife, mother, and friend with a shining spirit that brought joy into many people’s lives. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and her beloved dog Cassy. She enjoyed many hours tending her vegetable and flower gardens. Dorlyn is survived by her husband of 64 years, Bryan Burgin of Otego, NY., Ronda (Jim) Sweeney of Otego, NY, Tim (Rebecca) Burgin of Scottsdale, AZ, Matthew Hung of Alomogordo, NM, and Daniel and Christian Burgin, both of Scottsdale, AZ. She is also survived by Peg Kelly of Bainbridge, NY, David Butler of Ruffin, SC, Angelet (Walid) Soltan of Hancock, NY, Marc (Anne) Burgin of Franklin, NY, and Eric Burgin of Otego, NY, as well as several nieces, nephews, and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, brother Eli Kelly of Bainbridge, NY, sister Gail Butler of Ruffin, SC, and brother-in-law Peter Burgin of Franklin, NY. The Family wishes to extend their gratitude to all the doctors, nurses, and staff that provided care for her during her stay at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital. Celebration of Life services will be held at a later date.
