Dorothy Ann (Miller) Dutton
My heart is heavy as I write this
And contemplate my memories of “Dot” (As she was known to everyone as we were growing up)! To her dear Mom, she was always “Dorothy Ann”!
I met Dot when I was 7 years old And my family moved to Massapequa on Long Island!
We lived in Chestnut Street, and Dot and her family lived in Cherry
Street.. just 2 blocks away! I had 2 younger Sisters (who loved “Dot Miller”) and Dot had an older Sister and younger brother! Dot quickly became my Best Friend, My confidant, My “New Yawk” Kindred Spirit! I adored her parents, “Mom and Pop Miller”!
We both were raised in the Catholic Church, and attended all the same schools together!
Everywhere we went, we had to walk (except for taking the school bus)! We walked A LOT!
As teenagers, Rock and Roll was very popular .. American Bandstand with Dick Clark every day after school, ELVIS, the Everly Brothers, Tom Jones etc etc! My sisters and I got a stereo for Christmas .. so Lots of laughing and Dancing .. the twist, mashed potato’s , the Lindy, etc etc! In High School we attended lots of Dances with our “boyfriends” (going steady) and especially going to our Proms!
When we graduated High School, we didn’t get to see each other as often ! We both got jobs, and mine was in Manhattan
(1 hour train ride to work and another hour home after work!
We also each had a boyfriend!
I was the one who married first! I married a man 9 years older than I that I met at work! Dot was a bridesmaid at our wedding (She looked so stunning )!my new husband and I were both transferred from the Corporate office in Manhattan to a Division of the company in Los Angeles!
That was too far away from Dot, although Dot and my Sister came and spent fun time with us in California! Shortly after, Dot married Jimmy Dutton! My husband and I came back home for her beautiful wedding!
We always lived too far apart to see each other, but my family and I visited Jimmy and Dot and their three children on their farm
In upstate New York! Dot loved the farm and was riding horses and her children were collecting eggs! Also, whenever we would go back to visit my family in New York, we managed a to see Dot at “Mom and Pop Milller’s “ on Cherry Street where she grew up!
One of my biggest regrets is always living so far away from Dot and not getting to know each other’s families
I know I will see her again in Heaven .. never to be separated
Again! Hopefully, her “Mansion will be right next to mine! That would be Heaven to me!
I have been blessed with the best friend (“Sister”) that anyone could ever have! These surely are eternal relationships!
