Obituary of Carl Griffith

Carl A. Griffith, 76, a longtime resident of Sidney, NY, passed away at his home in New Bern, NC, on Friday, September 1, 2023. Carl is survived by his wife of 40 years, Anne; their two children, Daniel Griffith and Allison (Josh) Zarkin; and granddaughter, Samantha Zarkin. He is also survived by his brother Robert (Diane Price) Griffith. Carl was born and raised in Walton, NY and lived in Delaware County for most of his life. He was a graduate of the University of Rochester and the University of Buffalo Law School. Carl practiced law in Sidney in partnership with Paul Eaton for over 40 years. Carl served his community in various capacities over the course of his career. He acted as school attorney for the Sidney Central School District for over two decades and was a president of the Delaware County Bar Association. He also served as a director of the Greater Sidney Development Corporation and the Sidney Community Foundation. Carl was a Sidney rotarian, holding various leadership roles, and was a Paul Harris Fellow. He was also a trustee and secretary on The Hospital board. Carl’s service to the community was recognized when he and Paul Eaton were named Citizens of the Years in 2017 by the Sidney Chamber of Commerce. In addition to being a devoted husband and father, Carl was an avid golfer and bridge player. He was a longtime member and served on the board of the Sidney Golf & Country Club where he was a two-time Club Champion and Senior Club Champion. A celebration of Carl’s life will be held at 5 p.m. on Saturday, November 4th at the Sidney Golf & Country Club in Sidney, NY.
