Obituary of William Robert Walker

Please share a memory of William to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
William Robert Walker, by his wife's side, holding her hand, our precious father was lifted up to heaven after 91 years on this earth. He was born on August 3, 1932 to Beatrice and Gerald Walker and passed away on September 14, 2023. Bill and Esther (Searle) celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary in June. He raised four children, Gale, Keith, (Pamela Walker), Kim (Larry Crowe) and Thomas (Renee Walker). He was a proud grandfather of 4 and great grandfather to 6 children. He deeply loved his brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and many cousins. Bill was the co-captain of the Sidney High School Football team in 1950 when the team went undefeated and won the state championship. William was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the Navy on the USS Bennington. He retired from Bendix after 36 years and was a machinist and Chief Union Steward for the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace workers. A role model and mentor to many youth, Bill also worked evenings at the Sidney Rec Center. He was a member and a deacon of the First Baptist Church of Sidney. Special messages from his children: Gale: Dad and moms precious first born, they devoted themselves to Gale ensuring her quality of life, dignity and strong faith in God as she faced life challenges. Gale left this earth to join her Lord in January 2019. From Keith: Our heavenly father's spirit lives within us, and now our earthly father's spirit lives within us too. One day our spirits will reunite, and we will be together again for all eternity. Never selfish and always loving. He took time to do things his kids enjoyed, and he never complained. He hunted for 64 years where he spent time in the woods hunting with his father, his brothers, later with his sons and grandsons. He never got a deer and now I know he never wanted to shoot a deer, he just wanted to enjoy time with his family. From Kim: A wise and dear friend of mine recently told me, "Dad's are our first love, our biggest fan". A true reflection of my feelings for my beloved dad. My father was a man of strength, faith and resiliency. His family always came first and he embraced many others into our family through the years. His love was enduring despite the challenges life threw his way. Always and forever he will be my first love. From Tom: Dad often told us Grandma Walker used to say-What's ur pucker (hurry) Billy? As you aged, I studied all the wrinkles of your face, the wisdom you gained, the humbleness that you showed, the unconditional love, the devotion to your God, your wife, and your children who will always and forever hold you in their hearts and prayers. Now I know-What's your pucker dad? In deep love and devotion, we mourn the loss of our father and husband, William Robert Walker. Funeral services will be held at a later date.
