Obituary of Mark T. Simmons
Please share a memory of Mark to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mark “Simbo” Thomas Simmons was born in Cooperstown on July 28, 1970, and died unexpectedly at the age of 53 on August 23, 2023.
Mark is survived by his children, Emma and Wilson Simmons, and wife, Tracy Wilson Simmons, all of Sidney as well as his parents, Thomas and Sandra Simmons, of Sidney; brother, Steven (Mercedes) Simmons of Goshen; his nephews, Russell Simmons of Walton and Sebastian Simmons of Goshen. Mark was predeceased by his brother, Ryan Simmons, sister-in-law Theresa Simmons, and grandparents Harold and Florence Simmons and Lawrence and Yvonne Carey.
After his high school career as a Sidney Warrior, Mark attended Dean College in Massachusetts where he played football and caught a touchdown pass in a Division III Bowl game. Always up for an adventure, Mark then went off to New Mexico with some pals where he even owned a ranch fencing company before setting sail in the US Navy Seabee with the Constitution battalion to the shores of Sicily at Sigonella Naval Base and then to Guantanamo Base Cuba, achieving the rank of Petty Officer (E-4). Mark became a high-voltage lineman for the next 24 years with NYSEG.
Some of Mark’s proudest moments in life were watching his daughter, Emma, play basketball, soccer and graduating from high school. He enjoyed watching his son Wil compete in basketball, football, and motocross and together they enjoyed spending time outdoors. As a family, they all enjoyed time at their camp on Keuka Lake where their extended family and friends often joined in the fun of fishing, boating, and hanging around the campfire.
Mark’s zest for life and his dramatic and quick-witted storytelling, his loveable character, and his charm set him apart. Mark had a larger-than-life personality, and his spirit was contagious. He will be missed by his family, his many close friends, and the family dog, Pyper.
