Obituary of George B. Lipp

George Boyd Lipp, 92, of Afton passed away on August 21, 2023 at the New York State Veterans Home at Oxford. George was born on June 11, 1931 in the Town of Tompkins to Fred Lipp and Ethel (Boyd) Lipp. He grew up in Cannonsville and Deposit and graduated from Deposit High School. George was a United States Navy veteran, serving during the Korean War. George married Cecelia (Lorenz) Miller on November 17, 1962 and together they enjoyed 55 years of marriage. George owned and operated the Hamden Garage in Hamden, New York from 1965 to 1973. He retired from the New York State Department of Transportation in Oxford. George is survived by his five children, Leonard (Deanna) Miller of Melbourne, Florida; Karen Miller of Middletown, New York; Patty White of Old Orchard Beach, Maine; Suzanne (James) Corey of Saratoga Springs, New York; and Bruce (Lori) Lipp of Reno, Nevada; as well as two grandchildren, four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Cecelia; parents; sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Lee Conklin of Stilesvillle, New York and niece, Marian Conklin. George will rest in peace next to his wife in the Eastside Cemetery in Afton where a graveside military tribute will be held on September 9, 2023 at 11:00am. The family extends its heartfelt thanks to George's wonderful neighbors who provided him with friendship and support over the years, to caregiver Aliesha Thomas who had a special bond with George and to the staff of the Veteran's Home at Oxford that provided him with extraordinary loving care during the final months of his life.
