Henri V. Carrere, Jr., 87, of Sidney, passed away on Friday, August 11, 2023.

He was a US Navy Veteran and a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle.

Henri served on 3 of the “41 For Freedom” submarines: the US James Madison, of which he was a proud Plank Owner, the US Thomas A Edison on which he was “COB” (Chief Of The Boat) and the US James K Polk from which he retired from active service on July 17,1974. Henri then served in the Ready Reserve until 1984, for a total service of 30 years.

Henri was awarded 11 Polaris Patrol Pins. He qualified for his first Dolphins on the US Carp, a Balao Class diesel submarine.

Henri is survived by his daughters, Michelle (Craig) Gagner, Denise Slack, and Valerie(Sean) Mruk; grandchildren, Cynthia (Michael) Galvan, Kelly Mruk, Cliff (Sharon) Cherry and Chris Cherry; great-grandchildren, Allison & Jacob Cherry; 3 nieces: Carrie, Irene and Marie, and nephew, Victor.

A Celebration of Life will be at held at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St. Sidney, NY on August 27th at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Henri’s name to Toys for Tots or a perennial garden plant for dads memorial garden would be appreciated.
