Obituary of Thomas J. Kelly
Please share a memory of Thomas to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Thomas J. Kelly, born February 6, 1935, went to the Lord on July 23, 2023. He was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Mildred Kelly; brother, Gary and sisters, Joan Zayac, Dorothy Davis and Mildred Miyake.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Melrose Kelly (nee Sherman); sons, Thomas C. Kelly (Colleen), Timothy C. Kelly (Nora) and Tyler Mark Kelly (Denise), as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Tom was born in Brooklyn, NY and moved to Afton as a child at age 13. He spent his years as a roofing contractor whilst pursuing his and Melrose's dream of building a family campground. After 52 years of business his dream, known as Kellystone Park, is still going strong. What started out as a 26-site campground has grown to over 200 sites. He built a golf course, swimming pool, tennis court, rec hall, pavilions, country store and much more.
Through the years he has formed countless relationships, friendships and memories with campers and their families. Now the campsite is filled with their children and grandchildren, with a legacy he was very proud of.
Tom's loves were horses, hockey, golf and being with his family and friends. And let's not forget FOX News!! His sense of humor was enjoyed by all who knew him. He enjoyed joking around, pulling pranks, and just having a good time, along with playing on his excavator and digging hole after hole.
He was never one to sit, and was always thinking of new ideas, sites, and anything else he could possibly dream of. These are the memories we will take and hold dear to our hearts.
He is now at peace and in God's hands.
Please join us in celebrating Tom's life on August 12th beginning at 1:00pm at Kellystone Park Campground, 51 Hawkins Road, Nineveh, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his memory may be directed to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
