Richard Donald Fairbairn, 82, of Bainbridge, NY, passed away on Friday, May 26, 2023, at Wilson Hospital in Johnson City, NY. He was born on September 11, 1940, in Margaretville, NY, son of the late Donald and Luella (Sanford) Fairbairn. On October 9, 1960, he was married to Maria Anna Naccarato, who predeceased him in 1990. Richard was proud of his career as a machinist at Amphenol, spanning 38 years before his retirement. He was the ultimate do-it-yourselfer and an antique car enthusiast, restoring cars and attending shows and was a longtime member of the Algonquin Antique Auto Club. He also enjoyed watching the birds and wildlife at his home. He is survived by four children: Diane French and her husband Harold, Sally Naccarato, Rick Fairbairn and his wife Kelly, and Frank Fairbairn and his partner Darlene Spaulding; grandchildren: Heather, Erik, Jesse, Candice, Owen and Jack; great-grandchildren: Charlie, Dean and Mason; siblings: Bill, Matt, Sandy and Debbie, as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, Richard was predeceased by his son, David; great-grandson, Taylor, and brother, Roger. Friends may call from 2:00-3:30 on Thursday, June 1, 2023, at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, NY. Burial will be private in Greenlawn Cemetery, Bainbridge. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
